Congratulations! You have made it to the very end of our sustainability challenge week!

Pat yourself on the back, regardless of whether you completed all the challenges. You have taken that first step simply by pausing on the scroll, or reading this article!

Today’s challenge is super easy!

Question: How many electronic devices do you have at home?

More than you can count on your fingers, right? Every household is likely to have double the number of electronic gadgets than its members. While we all know how harmful it is to our health and lifestyle, have you thought that there are fossil fuels burning even when you are scrolling reels? Yes, even ours 🙂

Pollution, one of the biggest challenges the world faces today, is the byproduct of fossil fuel burning but how can you contribute to change? Remember that change is often a collection of small, impactful steps.

Day 7 Challenge: Use fossil fuels sparingly.

As always, here are some tips beyond just switching off fans and lights when not in use:

1. In the kitchen:

Cook with the lid on. Cooking is faster, and consumed less energy. Many people also swear by the OPOS method, which helps save tons of time, and energy!

2. In the laundry:

Use cold water to wash your clothes. Unless clothes are heavily soiled, there is no need to use hot water for washing clothes.

3. With your devices:

Charge your smartphones only once a day. Related to this is another challenge: reduce your screentime. Did you know that an average healthy screen time is 2 hours, yet, on an average, people spend around seven hours in front of a screen

4. Recharge:

Use rechargeable batteries instead of regular ones. It may consume power, but the rechargeable nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries and nickel-cadmium (NiCd) are more earth friendly than disposable ones. Also, safe disposal of the batteries is essential.

5. Unplug:

Not just in your life, but literally as well! It may be convenient to keep daily appliances plugged in, but they keep using up small amounts of energy. It’s also safer to switch off the appliances or unplug them.

That’s it for the 7-day challenge!
