What’s the best way to get someone to do something that’s good?
Challenge them, says research!
Many of us have wanted to start on this journey of sustainability but find it overwhelming. It does not have to be! We can just take one step at a time.
So here we are, with Club Artizen’s 7-day sustainability challenge for you.
As part of World Environment Day on June 5, we bring you a unique opportunity to try out a few sustainable baby steps in your life!
Each day, for a week, we have a challenge for you! Fear not, for we also provide help should you need it! Take up the challenge at any time, and if you are able to do all seven, send us pics for a special gift!
Day 1 Challenge: Repurpose an old piece of clothing!
Over the years, we end up collecting a lot of clothes, especially T-shirts, which are the go-to for corporate and other branding merch. They are also super comfortable for all kinds of activities: right from a casual evening out to jogging and yoga.
The end result is that clothes tend to pile up in our wardrobe. We sometimes remain so attached to the memories associated with our clothes that we choose to hold on to it and not let it go.
This challenge solves all issues: you can hold onto your clothes, but in a different avatar!
Challenge 1: Repurpose an old piece of clothing into any other usable item!
Our suggestion? Make a tote bag from your old tee!
Just cut off the sleeves and seal the bottom of the T-shirt using any of the variety of ways you can do it and voila! The bag is ready!
A few other suggestions:
Plant canopy:
With temperatures soaring, you can use your old clothes to protect your plants from the harsh sun by creating a natural sun shade.
You can tie together old towels and/or dupattas to create a canopy and tie its ends to some support or rods at a safe height for the plants.
Patchwork:
Old clothes are a great source for patchwork material, which can be a great collage of the memories associated with each item of clothing you choose to include!
The ideas for upcycling are just endless.
So come on, take the challenge and knock our socks off (or repurpose them)!
Stay tuned for the challenge of Day 2!
