What is the first thing you use when you wake up everyday?
Think about it and in the meantime, don’t forget to congratulate yourself. You have come a long way–you’re more than halfway through the challenge!
From reusing plastic caps to modifying your old clothes, you have taken a greener path.
Doing it for a day or a week is not going to bring the change we envisioned. The practices must continue in the long run and change others around you! This also indicates solving the problem by introducing replacements that do not change the utility you derive from it.
Today’s challenge is to change your perspective and look for replacements where possible!
Day 4 Challenge: Mark out three plastic things you use everyday and switch to sustainable options!
A great idea to spot those items: Wake up and visually run through your day, Spot the plastic products that you might use during the course of a day.
Some usual suspects may include:
- Toothbrush. Switch to a sustainable option like a bamboo toothbrush.
- Water bottle. If it’s plastic, especially single-use plastic, consider switching to steel or copper bottles. A study by Harvard school of Public Health stated that people who use polycarbonate bottles to drink water were found to have high amounts of BPA (bisphenol A ,which is used to make those polycarbonate bottles). This makes one more prone to heart disease and diabetes.
- Straws. A big no to straws, if you can help it.
- Loofah. Natural loofahs cause little harm to the environment.
- Dabbas in the kitchen. Cheap plastic tends to disintegrate quickly and ends up in landfills. Consider switching to steel or longer-lasting options.
- Finally, your pen. Globally, an estimated 9 billion pens are used in a year. Do you remember fountain pens? They are much more sustainable, as are pencils!
Run through your day and you may find many more such instances! Choose three and replace them with alternatives right away. Live a more sustainable life!
